GIVE
In 2 Corinthians, Paul writes to the church in Corinth about a collection he is taking for the church back in Jerusalem. In the letter, Paul encourages the church to give generously to this work. In his charge to the Corinthian church Paul makes a number of points which are important for us as we consider how we should use our money today.
Firstly, Paul notes that we ought to excel in the act of giving because this is a clear and practical demonstration that we truly know just how much Jesus gave for us, though he was rich, yet for our sake he became poor, so that we through his poverty might become rich (2 Cor 8:7-9). We ought to give generously financially because God has given generously to us, and will continue to do so.
Secondly, Paul encourages the Corinthians to give generously and cheerfully because God is pleased with us when we have this attitude. He also reminds them and us that God is trustworthy and he continues to bless us with more than we need for our life. Giving as a Christian is not only something that must be done, but we are to enjoy doing it!
At Wellspring there are a number of ways that we encourage you and enable you to give generously and cheerfully to the work of spreading the good news about Jesus both here in Hobart and further afield.
