Wellspring Anglican Church
Cambodia Giving

As followers of Jesus we are called to defend the defenceless and provide for brothers and sisters in need. We must be compelled to use the great wealth we possess to support, love and care for brothers and sisters who live in poverty.

However money can be troublesome...

Jesus spoke frequently about wealth. It can be used powerfully for good and also evil. Wealth can be deceiptful, promising satisfaction but ultimately taking our worship away from God. This is true for us and also our partners in Cambodia. Frequently western giving fosters a patron client relationship which actually disempowers Cambodians and promotes corruption.

With this in mind, we want to prayerfully support our brothers and sisters in Cambodia in ways which foster equality, empowerment, independence and builds relationship.

We have commited to support three ministry trainees, three primary school teachers and Abraham at Andong. Currently this support is $50US/month for each person. In this way we are actively supporting the Andong community, but in a way which empowers and releases the church. It is unrealistic that living in such poverty that the church can afford to support these staff, but with this assistance the church is now able to use all collections that they receive to serve and assiste the people of Andong. We are also supporting the development of future church leaders and students in education which will give them greater capacity for independence and sustainable income.

As a once off, we have purchased a commercial espresso machine for Project Khmer Hope, which will significantly enhance the job prospects of their graduates. The first exposure team to PKH has already trained the students and staff in a Barista course! The cost of the espresso machine and peripherals was $4000, thanks to the generosity of a Phnom Penh importer who gave us an excellent deal.

We have also supported exposure team members to travel to Cambodia where they would not have been otherwise able to travel.

We will of course be continually, in conjunction with our partners, be praying, reviewing and considering how we can best support now and into the future. As our support changes we will let everyone know and also update this page accordingly.
